Over the 5 week period, we hosted two full-day camps a week at Longfleet school in Poole which comprised of not only football but also the opportunity to try other games such as dodgeball, basketball and squash. Whilst many days were overcast, we were fortunate to avoid any rain disruption.

For the Tuesday sessions, we made free places available to children who were eligible for free school meals. Despite there being many other holiday clubs available, offering free places as well as free food, the days were well subscribed with an average of more than 20 applications a day.

On Wednesday’s we made 30 spaces a day available to the young carers who reside within the BCP area. During the summer we made contact with Dorset council and extended the offer to their children and were delighted to see some of their kids participate coming all the way from Weymouth.

Like Tuesdays, the days were a mixture of football and multi-sports. At the start of the first day for each child they were given a complimentary Kids Initiative boot bag and pair of shin pads, if they needed them, and at the end of each day they had an ice cream before heading home.

Our thanks to Ray Smith Young Carers, Poole for covering the cost of the shin pads and ice creams. We are also extremely grateful to the BC Club who made it all possible by providing substantial funding to pay for the taxis to get the children safely to and from the event.
